Man-made Crystal / Nano Crystal

Some like to associate their man-made crystals to the meaning of real crystals which among many could be positive power, energy, and clarity.

FACTS

SPECIES/GROUP: Crystal

CLASSIFICATION: Man-made stone

ORIGIN

A nano crystal is an entirely man-made invention and does not exist in nature.

Name

The name refers to its crystallised structure and it is often referred to as nano crystal because it contains nanometer-sized particles of oxides and silicates. Pandora’s product code for synthetic crystal is ‘N’.

Appearance

Created in a laboratory, a nano crystal's chemical composition is a mixture of oxides and silicates grown within a glass matrix. Synthetic crystal is available in virtually all the colours of the rainbow. The colour is homogenous, meaning that its shade and saturation does not vary from stone to stone. Some stones are also created to display various optical effects usually associated with natural gemstones, such as opalescence, an optical play of colour phenomenon that occurs naturally in some opal gemstones.

Durability

Scoring 8.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness and with solid toughness, cubic zirconia is highly durable and suitable for use on all types of jewellery

ROYAL COLOURS

Many of Pandora’s man-made crystal colours feature the word ‘royal.’ This indicates that these man-made stones possess the classic jewel tones associated with the most prominent natural gemstones such as sapphire (royal blue), emerald (royal green) and amethyst (royal purple). The names of the crystal colours “London blue” and “Swiss blue” do not refer to the origin of the stones, but are instead known in the gemstone trade as popular shades of blue usually associated with topaz.
